5/2/2024 0 Comments Coolant light flashingOther option is to try replacing the engine compartment temp sensor but all appears to be functioning in there.Īny help is greatly appreciated, I just don't like driving around with this stupid light flashing although there does not seem to be any temperature issues at this time. The most obvious and prevalent cause of coolant light activation in BMWs is running low on engine coolant in the reservoir. Here are the most common culrpits behind an inconsistent or erratic temperature warning light: 1. If I drop a wire down into the tank and pull up on the "Float" should the blinking light go out- assuming a running engine?Ĭould I take the old tank and plug the hole(s) so it retains water, set it next to the new tank and plug in the to the sensor could I "test the Tank? A BMW coolant indicator that blinks on and off is almost always caused by one of several issues. The new tank is slightly different and does not appear to have the same cap on it. You might be able to see, hear of even smell this when you open the bonnet. A coolant loss could be caused by a leak somewhere in the system, such as a split hose or a hole in the radiator. The old tank has a cap on the area that I would assume is the float for thew level sensor. The light could be caused by several factors, but the most likely is either a loss of coolant or a fault with the sensor. In attempting to resolve this I have replaced the coolant level sensor that plugs into the bottom of the coolant tank, as well as the tank itself. If you peak down the fill spout there is a slight difference between the new and old tank. I am having a recurring issue of the coolant light flashing and triggering rad fan. The new expansion tank I purchased is aftermarket and wondering if this is the issue. Low coolant light blinks slowly even when car is COLD. Coolant reads in between max and min whne COLD. The radiator was flushed again same results. The radia. I have to keep the fans running all the time or it overheats. ![]() Repair shop flushed dexcool out then 7 months later the low coolant light flashes. I also checked to make sure the temp sensor in the engine compartment was not displaced and appears to be mounted securely between the 2 intake runners. Low Coolant light keeps flashing but radiator and reservoir are full 2 Answers. I keep my eye on the new HUD gauge in order to never see that red light again. The red light goes on I think at 114 C (when it is already too late). So I am assuming the temp sensor is functioning. At 112 temp Celcius (235F) is indeed the temp at least in my car that the coolant starts to boil.
